2002
After discussion for approximately 2 years, four like minded couples – Mr & Mrs Jagannathan, Dr & Mrs Raman, Dr & Mrs Doraisamy and Mr Logendra envisioned plans to open first South Indian temple in Glasgow, Scotland to perform traditional South Indian poojas & Ceremonies. They collectively contributed and donated initial funds to source Panchaloha idols from Swamimalai, Tamilnadu, India.
2005
The first South Indian temple in Scotland inaugural pooja was conducted on 21st August 2005 at Partick Burgh Council Hall, Partick, Glasgow. Mr. Pramod Kandala was our first priest at the Council Hall.
2009 (End of the year)
Temple functions stopped at the Council Hall.
2010
Through generous funds from devotees, mortgage was acquired for the current premises in Rutherglen, Glasgow. * Mortgage was augmented by Dr & Mrs Raman by pledging their Surgery and their own funds as Collaterals to bank to secure the mortgage.
January 2010
Moved temple to current premises in Rutherglen, Glasgow.
2012
Held first South Indian Carnatic music concert in temple premises in 2012.
2014
The Common Wealth Game’s Committee, Glasgow allocated a prayer room for Hindus from the teams at the Players’ village.
2015
Mortgage was paid off due to the benevolence of our devotees and via prudent management of funds by Mr & Mrs Jagannathan
- Secured a grant from the Prestigious “Award for all Scotland” and a Commendation from the Queens representative in Lanarkshire.
- Our temple was selected by “Big Lunch” celebration committee, UK.
- Dr Srihari went to London to receive an award from HRH Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla on behalf of the temple.
- Raised funds for Princess of Wales Hospice.
- Our activities were recognised by across UK both by BBC & STV
- Many volunteers who have actively contributed include: Mr Premkumar Alamantha, Drs Gopinathan, DR & Mrs BalaChandran, Drs.Jairam, Mr Valaydon & dedicated service from countless others.
- Dr Prabhakara Bhatt was our long standing priest who came to temple every Sunday and some time on week days to perform pooja on special events days. In addition to that he conducted numerous poojas both inside and outside temple which enhanced the temple funds considerably. Our special thanks to Dr. Prabhakara Bhatt for his sincere and outstanding service.
