Temple President's message
As The President of your Hindu Temple of Scotland, Glasgow, Scotland registered as, The South Indian Cultural Society of Scotland, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your family and friends to visit the temple in Glasgow.
The temple website is also active and we invite you to see the events, both temple and culture related content on the site : www.hindutempleofscotland.org
The temple is a distinctive place and can only operate with active engagement of all Members and Non-Members who are very devoted and who give their time and efforts voluntarily to ensure the success for the development and future growth of the temple.
I would like to take this moment to thank their assistance and financial aid, which, has enabled our growth from strength to strength. The temple and cultural centre serves all the South Indian Language speaking communities irrespective of their countries of origin.
Initially the temple was founded in a rented council hall and was only open to public on Sundays. The funds raised from the temple were used as a deposit to get a mortgage but the banks refused to grant the mortgage. Thus Dr M. S. Raman (Co-Founder) helped to secure the mortgage by pledging his own property.
We are pleased to announce that the mortgage had been paid off within 5 years due to prudent financial management by Mrs. S. Jagannathan, Assistant Secretary, with guidance of Dr. M.S. Raman, Treasurer and Mr Prem Kumar Alamantha who submits accounts annually to the Accountant and HMRC.
Here I would like to thank both the Executive and Non-Executive members for their commitments in raising funds. I am also especially very grateful to all our Priests for their sincere dedication in raising funds by conducting several poojas both outside and inside of the temple.
Unfortunately our Temple and Centre does not receive any regular financial support either from local government or any other organisation. All the funds been raised from our Well-Wishers and Devotees of who have sponsored the Annadhanam / meals for the pooja day. There are some Well-Wishers and Devotees who are also paying monthly by standing order / direct debit. I would like to thank them all in all the help they have given.
We acquired the current building in January 2010 and have since undertaken many Capital expenditures in order to improve the standard of the old building such as:
• Central heating system
• Under floor insulation
• Wooden flooring
• Roof repairs (multiple times)
• Drainage system
• Painted both compound external wall and main stage area
• Re-wiring to inside of the temple (including main stairwell)
• LED lights to all areas
Further plans are to: • Reduce heating costs and keeping the temple warm by lowering the height of the ceiling and by installing suspended ceiling for the main pooja area.
• To improve the facilities for Devotees.
Temple funds service ongoing operational costs such as gas, electric, telephone and Internet bills along with contingencies. Since we anticipate further on-going Capital expenses, to continue with the upgrade and sustainability of the Temple and Centre, I would like to take this opportunity to request your support to enable smooth running and avoid financial difficulties.
On behalf of committee members, I am sincerely requesting you all to pledge aid for your temple financially and physically.
Thanking you all in advance for your kind support.
The continued presence of your temple lies in your hands –please support your Temple and Cultural Centre and make it successful for the future generations.
Yours gratefully,
Mr K Jagannathan

Our Vision For The Future- update
We hope to see the temple attracting devotees from all over Scotland and UK.
We wish to be at the forefront of providing Cultural, religious & Social services to our devotees.
In continuation of the Cultural & Educational activities in the temple, we hope to run language classes in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam in the near future.
We intend to install an idol of Lord Ganesha in stone and build a traditional Gopuram (pyramidal Entrance – a special feature of South Indian temple architecture) at the front elevation of the temple.
